ADAM, EVE & THE SERPENT
Q&A 03: If Adam Did Not Know He Was Naked, Was He Childlike?
QUESTION
Adam did not even know that he was naked. Does that not prove he was mentally innocent, primitive, or childlike—and therefore unable to understand the seriousness of the command?
RESPONSE
Fact Two: There was no problem with Adam not knowing that he was naked. That ignorance was bliss. God was not going to judge Adam for nakedness. God judged him for disobedience. Many people continue along the Serpent’s path by arguing that Eve improved humanity by eating the forbidden fruit. They claim that, without her action, humanity would have remained mentally infantile, primitive, and naked among animals. One foolish commentator even suggested adding a “World Eve Remembrance Day” to the calendar to celebrate Eve for supposedly introducing civilization. Those who celebrate the civilization associated with forbidden knowledge forget the death and destruction that came with that same knowledge. Which would you choose? Option 1. You may know every form of good and evil in the world, but the day you attain that knowledge, you must die. Option 2. You may depend upon God’s Spirit and message to guide you concerning good and evil, and live as long as you keep His word. The ignorance that is bliss means being independently blind in your natural ability while seeing through dependence upon the Spirit of God.
