Scavengers Fulfilled the Word. Part one of three. First Kings 22:38, Good News Bible. “His chariot was cleaned up at the pool of Samaria, where dogs licked up his blood and prostitutes washed themselves, as the Lord had said would happen.” First Kings 22:38, King James Version. “And one washed the chariot in the pool of Samaria; and the dogs licked up his blood; and they washed his armour; according unto the word of the Lord which He spake.” In fulfilling the Word of the Lord. It’s not to celebrate the “swimming pool” in Samaria during the days of Ahab, where prostitutes used to swim or bathe in the swimming pool; but to celebrate the fulfilling of the Word of the Lord there by the pool about dogs licking the blood of Ahab. One prophet, Micaiah, said Ahab would die in Ramoth-Gilead and would not return safely in peace, but another prophet, Elijah, had already said Ahab’s blood would be licked by dogs in Samaria where Naboth’s blood was licked, First Kings 21:19. Both were fulfilled, in that Ahab was struck dead in Ramoth-Gilead, but his blood became a communion to the dogs at the swimming pool of Samaria, whereby a spoken word of the Lord was fulfilled. For Ahab’s chariot and armour bore his blood when brought to the dogs all the way from Ramoth-Gilead to Samaria. And the pool that was used to wash prostitutes was also used to wash the chariot and armour of Ahab off the blood of Ahab.
The Lord did not say, “Heaven and Earth will pass away, but My word will not go without being obeyed,” but He said, “Heaven and Earth will pass away, but My word will not go without being fulfilled,” Mark 13:30–31. All the Word of the Lord was not fully obeyed in Ahab, but all the Word of the Lord was fully fulfilled in Ahab. Even those who do not obey God’s words are fulfilling His words. Ahab would pass away, but the Word of the Lord will not pass away, but abides forever through being fulfilled. The washing of the water. Spiritually, the fact something is washed does not mean it is clean, John 13:10. You need water to wash something, but you need more than water to cleanse or purify it. It’s easier for washing water to make something “cleaner” than to make it “clean.” You must be clean before the washing of water makes you cleaner. Cleansing is more than washing, and includes purifying, trying, refining, and so on, to remove all forms of impurities, defects, and oldness. One can wash blood out of a land using water, but he cannot cleanse blood out of the land using water.
