[NKJV]
Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”
[BSB]
Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field that the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden?’”
From this Bible verse above, understand that though the Serpent had been more crafty or wiser than any living creature of the earth, the Serpent and his craftiness was not worth our attention all those while until the Serpent asked the Woman this question or talked with her on this subject matter. It was the "Persons" and the "Subject-Matter" that brought the Serpent into this limelight of the scriptures.
Learn from the Serpent in this Bible verse above: The Class or Kind of Persons and Subject-Matters you deal with defines were you belong. Remember Satan was the Serpent, but it is assumed the Serpent was one of the beasts or animals. Among the animals, the Serpent distinguished himself by not reasoning like animals, but reasoning like the gods (angels or higher spiritual beings) that knew life and death, good and evil, wisdom and mysteries. E.g.
*1* Supposing other animals or beasts of the field God made were only thinking about their own food and what they will eat, the Serpent was not thinking about what he will eat but caring about what the woman or human race could and could not eat. Well, these days I have seen dogs trained to feed sheep and cattle as shepherd, and I have seen a clip where a dog snatched snacks from a passing man and ran to give the food to his own master that was a man without legs and without hands: that is, a dog caring for and feeding a man, instead of the man feeding the dog.
*2* Supposing other animals or beasts of the field God made were only thinking about their spouses (mates) or sexual partners, the Serpent was not thinking or worried about his female, neither was the Serpent after sex or bestial instincts even when talking to the Woman that was another man's wife.
*3* The Serpent was interested in the "Persons" and "Subject-Matter" because God Himself was interested in those things: That is mark of Wisdom or Wiseness — Being interested in whoever or whatever God is interested in. Some people would be interested in gossips, because they are interested in "What a particular man/woman said or did to the woman;" but the Serpent was not interested in gossips, neither was the Serpent interested in the man/husband have said or done to the woman as gossipers or talebearers. Rather the Serpent was interested in what God said to the man and woman. Do you think Satan is interested in gossips of what your neighbor said or did? Satan is only interested what God said to you and what you said, did or will do based on what God said or will do. Someone said, small minds discuss people, while bigger minds discuss ideas: but beyond discussing ideas, the Serpent was wiser than every beast of the field and was discussing what God said to mankind. Fools do not discuss what God is saying or what God said, and they do not know or even care about the Word of God. But Satan or the Serpent is very interested in the Words of God, especially to keep the Word from foolish human beings. When the Sower sowed the Word of God in the minds of men that were like the wayside mindset, the Devil like devouring birds came and took away the Word of God sown in their them. If you know anything else above how much you know the Word of God and what God is saying, you are already a fool; and the Serpent is very much more crafty than you.
The serpent talked to the woman because the serpent felt God had talked to the woman, and the serpent was interested in the woman's eating of the trees of the garden because the serpent felt God had instructed the woman about eating of the trees in the garden. The crafty serpent seemed to be interested in the woman, interested in God, and interested in the trees of the garden, but those false interests and false concerns of the crafty serpent were parts of his pretense and charming deception on the woman.
Unfortunately, the serpent's talk to her was to woo her mindset away from the Word of God and into doubting or questioning the practicality of what God said regarding all she eats in the garden.
There was a serpent in the garden who was a beast that talked to a beauty. The serpent, being more crafty than any other beast of the ground God made, did not have a mindset that only related to low-class creatures and its fellow beasts, but had a mindset that related to the woman's mind. At that time, there was no enmity between the serpent and the woman, instead, there was attractive and friendly communication between the serpent and the woman who loved to wonder after wisdom and craftiness. Wise things attracted her, and she would do anything she could to know more and to be wiser than she was.
The craftiness of the serpent, more than any other beast of the ground, revealed that he was a beast himself, and yet he had a mindset and conversation that was beyond the cunning of the natural beasts. Many beasts think of being a beast as motivation to be ferocious, aggressive, stronger, or more fearful, but the cunning serpent trod that path with craftiness above all the beasts.
All animals were made by God, but they do not all bear the Image of God in them, and all living creatures are made through the wisdom of God, but they do not all share an equal amount of wisdom and discernment of the wisdom of God.
The evidence of how wise the serpent was compared to the rest of those animals then was provable in the secrets and the subjects that mattered to the serpent most when the serpent talked to the woman.
Take up this assignment:
To retain and keep what God sent or said to you in the midst of wolves in sheep's clothing or in the midst of devouring beasts, you must be wise as a serpent in mind but harmless as a dove in heart.
And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; [NKJV]
“We may eat the fruit of any tree in the garden,” the woman answered, [GNT]
According to the woman's answer to the serpent, mankind could eat of the trees of the garden. As long as they were trees of the garden, mankind could eat of them because mankind dwelt and worked in the garden. Any man who gains entrance license into the garden also gains eating license from every tree of the garden. However not every tree inside the garden was a tree of the garden. There was a tree inside the garden that was not a tree of the garden. Trees in the garden could be grouped into three based on their sources:
The last two were not trees of the garden but were trees in the Garden, in the middle of the Garden precisely. Just as none of the living creatures (animals) were creatures of the Garden, but they were creatures in the Garden because they're imported (brought) into the Garden from the ground outside the Garden.
In this Bible verse, the woman "Taught" as if she was a Teacher to the Serpent, and after the Serpent acted as a Student to ask her the question she's herein providing answer to. What she said in here she said with authority; because she was neither quoting God nor quoting her husband, not even making reference to God saying this part of eating every tree in the Garden. By the time she mentioned the other about the tree they were not to eat, that was when she quoted or linked it to God has said we should not touch it lest we die.
Remember the woman was not even made by the time God gave the man the Words for the trees; and therefore whatever the woman was teaching with authority here was what she acquired from her husband, but she did not give him any credit, and she spoke as if she too heard God or was hearing God on the matter.
However, the Woman went from being a teacher to being deceived, and she fell into transgression, deluded by even the same 'Student' or 'Serpent' she taught on the same subject matter. That means there was a problem in the way she taught, which was the reason she was deceived and she into transgression.
The problem in it was that the Woman by her state of nature then was an "Open Source:" and by that I mean the Woman had an open mind that allowed both the man to program her mind and the Serpent to reprogram her mind. Open source programs allow any willing and able person to reprogram, restructure or modify, it.
The Woman as Open-Source was learning and she was teaching: She was learning and she was talking. And though she was teaching, she was learning. Yes, people learn while they teach; but when what you are learning contradicts what you are teaching, it means you are getting reprogrammed.
She learnt none of this Tree matter directly from God; but you see her acting and switching with authority, trying to teach two distinct teachers (Her Husband and the Serpent) because she's unstable in doctrine or discipline (program). She fluctuates:
*1* First, she learnt about the trees from the man (her husband) as her first teacher, and here she's applying what she learnt from her first teacher or programmer on the Serpent (second teacher). Remember, God did not speak or taught her directly about trees.
*2* Secondly, she learnt different things about the same tree from the Serpent as her second teacher or contrary programmer, and you will later see her with authority going back to teach her first teacher by giving him the forbidden fruit to eat, following the second teaching or reprogramming she received by deception.
I tell you, there are even women that have been reprogrammed or retaught to go fight their own husbands or disrespect them, different from how they were initial programmed to relate to their husbands; and those women suddenly changed after they were reprogrammed by what motivational speaker, activist, pastor, priest or even their peer group (fellow women) fed into their mind. Very unstable Women, easily carried away by next happening things. Opened to all or anyone who may come after.
[2 Timothy 3:6-7] — "For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth."
Therefore, unless the woman that is hearing directly from God or from the Holy Spirit, let no woman who is depending on another man for learning become teacher over men. As it is written,
[1 Timothy 2:11-14] — Women should learn quietly, respecting their place. I don't allow women to be teachers, or to dominate men; let them remain quiet. For Adam was made first, and then Eve. Adam wasn't deceived, but Eve was completely deceived, and she fell into sin.
but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ” [NKJV]
[GNT]
“except the tree in the middle of it. God told us not to eat the fruit of that tree or even touch it; if we do, we will die.”
Here the woman made reference to what God commanded, as in quoting what God said in His Word to mankind when the Word first forbade sin. But though the woman was the first to quote the word of God to the devil, she was also the first to go against the word she had quoted or preached to the devil; and even here she was not quoting the Word of God correctly. She had already begun to omit or miss out important detail while she quoted what God said, and the detail she omitted was what the devil used in manipulating her into the deception.
This was the detail she missed out or omitted in what God said concerning eating of the tree of knowledge of good and evil:
God said, "You shall not eat of it…" but the woman said God said, "You shall not eat of its fruit…" Meaning she introduced the word, "Fruit" as substitute for "it." No one had mentioned the Word, "Fruit" since God planted that Garden in Eden, until the woman mentioned it regarding the forbidden tree.
So, it was not just the "Forbidden Fruit" but the "Forbidden Tree." God forbade man from eating of the tree, not just forbade man from eating of the fruit of the tree, of knowledge of good and evil. Eating of the tree was much easier than eating of the fruit of the tree, and it's through eating of the tree that the woman eventually fell into eating of the fruit of the tree.
So many people thought they could defeat the receiving of the mark of the beast, 666, on their bodies; but in their mind they are already receiving the ways of the beast without knowing. The woman was already eating of the forbidden tree in her mindset through what the serpent had fed her hearing and what her looking at the forbidden tree fed her seeing: and by the time she realized herself, she eventually took the fruit of the forbidden tree and ate, and then served as agent to give the same fruit to her husband with her.
Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. [NKJV]
“You will not surely die,” the serpent told her.
Here the Serpent was a "False Prophet" that declared with authority to the woman, "You shall not die" or "You shall not surely die" even when she goes on to break the Word of God from her own mouth or even if she commits the sin. When you hear such a false prophet, false apostle, false teacher, like this Serpent, they inspire motivation by making no deal or trivializing the fear attached to committing a sin against God; and tends to sound more assured of faith or security that is unaffected even if one commits sin.
Satan is the minister and founder of such false gospel that appears to guarantee safety, security or no consequence, to women and men who breaks the Law or Commandment of God, building false trust on God's kindness, goodness and mercy, to overlook their sin.
This is called, "Triv i al i za tion" in "Flattery." And one of the ways the devil fights the true Word of God to mankind is by trivializing the Warnings or Consequences codes contained in the message of God's Word to mankind, and through that the devil further pushes or motivates mankind into defying the Word and Warnings of God to them. Thus the Serpent basically removed the "Not" or "Negative" that was forbidding the eating of the forbidden tree, and then the serpent introduced the "Not" or "Negative" in the position that trivializes the assurance of consequence or warning that must follow such act.
When you see a pastor or prophet fighting your death rather fighting your sins, attacking your enemies or poverty rather than attacking your unrighteousness and your foolishness, that pastor or prophet is very much preaching this false gospel of the serpent to you. Sin, unrighteousness and foolishness, are the first and the worst things any true gospel minister of God must first destroy in all your life and ways; before thinking of attacking demons or death in your life.
The soul that sin shall surely die: That's the true. Even the greatest Savior preached repentance from sin or death by perishing to sinners who do not repent. As it is written,
[Luke 13:5] — "I tell you, No: but, except you repent, you shall all likewise perish."
You see how the Serpent by craftiness or cunningly switched the "NOT" or the negative from forbidding the woman's sin to forbidding the woman's death so she could go on and commit the sin with assurance that no evil or penalty for the sin would come to her. That is how false teachers, false pastors, false ministers of the gospel prophesy and declare no evil or no death shall come upon sinners, and they seem to be speaking by faith, knowledge and motivation, but they are still using the lies or falsehood of the Serpent or the devil. As it is written,
This is what the Lord of Hosts says: “Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you. They are filling you with false hopes. They speak visions from their own minds, not from the mouth of the Lord. They keep saying to those who despise Me, ‘The Lord says that you will have peace,’ and to everyone who walks in the stubbornness of his own heart, ‘No harm will come to you.’ But which of them has stood in the council of the Lord to see and hear His word? Who has given heed to His word and obeyed it? Behold, the storm of the Lord has gone out with fury, a whirlwind swirling down upon the heads of the wicked. The anger of the Lord will not turn back until He has fully accomplished the purposes of His heart. In the days to come you will understand this clearly. [Jeremiah 23:16-20 BSB].
Beware of flattery and beware of false ministers. Flattery is the form gospel that Satan (or his agents) bring along when he comes in as an angel/minister of light, or when the lying devil uses 'ministers of God' as was done and shown in "1 Kings 22:22, 5-23." There are many such false ministers found in the midst of churches today [2 Corinthians 11:13-15].
Flattery may almost sound like the true gospel of Christ, for this reason the lazy Christians, the liars, and the undiscerning Christians, would gladly subscribe to Flattery rather than to the love of the truth. These are the days in which Flattery would proliferate and fill the waves in the churches and in the world in order to spread the spirit of the Antichrist according to the prophecy of Daniel [Daniel 11:32-35].
For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
[FBV]
“It's because God knows that as soon as you eat it, you'll see things differently, and you'll be like God, knowing both what is good and what is evil.”
See the vanities in the devil's temptations, for his temptations are like his meaningless journeys: going to and fro, and going up and down. Satan goes to and fro, up and down, because Satan follows Satan's temptations. That means any one who follows Satan's temptations would also be going to and fro, up and down, in vain and meaningless wanderings. At the end of it all, there's nothing new such one would say he/she had done that had not been done before, except for the useless wasting of more lives, time and resources. Why would you follow the temptations or counseling of the devil who obviously has not led himself and his demons well. Satan's own heart and mind are parts of the curses plaguing Satan since iniquity was found in him.
According to the serpent, eating of the tree of knowledge of good and evil would open one's eyes to be like God in knowing the good and evil that God already knows. The serpent admits that God knows good and evil, but refused to accept what the God that knows good and evil calls evil or forbids for mankind created in God's image after God's Likeness. God was already doing for the woman what the serpent was promising her as reward from eating the forbidden tree. God was the Eyes for mankind to see through and to know the nature of everything, but the devil just wanted mankind to remove their dependence, reliance or trust on God into depending or trusting themselves.
When the God who knew all things called that forbidden act, "evil" or deadly, the serpent protested and deceived the woman into committing the act to have an open eyes that know what is good and evil like God already knew.
This is called, "Being wise in your own eyes" or "Being wise in your own conceit" and it's basically rejecting God's Wisdom and God's leadership instead for man's self leadership that depends on man's eyes or his ability to know good and evil. We have seen where being wise in his own eyes have led the serpent to, and though he was more crafty than all the beast of the ground the serpent became cursed above all the beast of the ground.
Berean Study Bible (BSB)
[Isaiah 5:21] — "Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight."
We must walk by faith in God, not by sight or wiseness in our own eyes.
Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and turn away from evil. This will bring healing to your body and refreshment to your bones. [Proverbs 3:7-8]
So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. [NKJV]
The woman saw how beautiful the tree was and how good its fruit would be to eat, and she thought how wonderful it would be to become wise. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, and he also ate it. [GNT]
THE WOMAN'S GREATEST SIN AGAINST GOD AND MANKIND
When the woman saw the woman saw these things she saw about the forbidden tree, what she was seeing were basically endorsing (supporting/confirming) the things the Serpent told her in his deception. There were some truths in what the Serpent had told her about the tree, but there were lies about what the Serpent told her about God and the Word of God.
The lies is usually not in what Satan said about things, but about the impression he made you have about God and the realities of the Words of God. It's usually the Words of God that makes Satan the liar, because God can never be a liar in His own Words. If I say, the devil is a liar, I am not judging by things but by the revelation of God and His infallible Words.
In the Bible verse above, the woman's mind begun eating of the forbidden tree before the woman's mouth and the woman's man ate of the forbidden tree. Her mindset ate the three Lusts of the forbidden tree before her hand gave her mouth and her Man the fruits of the forbidden tree. The three Lusts of the tree were:
The woman had already begun eating of the tree by the feeding she received from the serpent without resisting 7Unfortunately, she was only judging the forbidden tree without judging the serpent's spirit, the serpent's motive or heart, as influence over her. Test all spirits against the Antichrist before you taste all fruits. When the Lord said, by their fruits you shall know them, He was not send you to taste or eat their fruits but to judge them by their fruits.
In as much as when the woman had received the fruit of the forbidden tree in her mind (head), receiving the fruit of the forbidden tree in her right hand was not any trouble any longer: And when her right hand received it, the hand extended it to her mouth and to her husband with her, so that her hand took the fruit to where the branches of the tree could not reach. Even so, when people would have received the Beast or his mark [666] in their mind (forehead), receiving the beast or his mark on their right hands would not prove difficult anymore from them. And when their hands receive it, their hands would spread it further to other people that still choose to remain sides with them, as the man chose to remain in the same side with the woman that had eaten the forbidden tree against the side of the Word of God.
[1 John 2:15-18 NKJV] — Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour.
Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings. [NKJV]
As soon as they had eaten it, they were given understanding and realized that they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and covered themselves. [GNT]
ONE ASPECT OF MANKIND OPENED TO CLOSE ANOTHER ASPECT OF MANKIND: (EYES OPENED, SOME COVERED)
At this stage mankind became like angels to some degree in knowing good and evil, which began with knowing shame of nakedness: for the evidence of knowing of good and evil was first knowing the state and the shame of nakedness. Moreover, they also became creative themselves in sowing leaves to form covering for their nakedness, which they couldn't expose any longer in the Garden or Paradise where they abode. Their nakedness had been opened when their eyes were unopened; but by the integration of that fruit of the knowledge of good and evil their eyes switched opened for their nakedness to switch covered.
Nevertheless,
Therefore it was a partial opening of their eyes, and not a perfect opening of their eyes, they had through eating of the forbidden tree. Infact, this opening of eyes they experienced here through the forbidden tree was a veiling of their eyes in disguised to better revelations through the distraction of a lesser civilization, exposition or discovery.
[Revelation 3:17-18 TLV] — For you say, ‘I am rich, I have made myself wealthy, and I need nothing.’ But you do not know that you are miserable and pitiable and poor and blind and naked. I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may be rich, and white clothes so that you may dress yourself and so the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed, and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see.
And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. [NKJV]
Then the man and his wife heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the breeze of the day, and they hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. [BSB]
GARDEN OF GOD DOES NOT HIDE PRESENCE OF GOD
Adam and Eve both knew and heard the walking steps or strides of the Lord God Himself, because God Himself walked through the Garden to the extent that mankind then knew God's walking steps just by the sound or voice of God's strides. However, it had to be so cool and quiet for them to really hear and discern the sound of Someone as God walking and approaching.
A cool breeze was fanning the day, but the Lord God was walking instead of moving like breeze. He could come like a mighty rushing wind or even come stealthily, but He came in the garden with walking strides that were loud enough to notify mankind of His Coming.
That notification was the pre-warning sound of the coming of the Lord to do Righteous Judgment. We all are hearing the voice or the sound of the Lord's Coming today, though He's not coming as walking steps in the cool of the day but, as signs of the end times, noises of wars, evils excalating, tribulations, fears and unusual unnatural events and things happening in increasing measures, etc, even though the gospel is being preached in greater measures than ever preached before. In that day of Adam and Eve, the day was cool as they heard the voice of the Lord's coming; but in our days, the days are not cool but full of evil and troubles.
Nevertheless, though they were pre-warned of His coming, they were not doing things to prepare for His coming or to come to Him; instead they did things to hide from His Presence or wished He wouldn't come by then. Mankind began to hide or run from the presence or exposing Light of God, preferring the secret place of the dark or shadows of the trees of the Garden instead of the Shadow of the Almighty God. That's the condemnation and the fall:
[John 3:19-21 NKJV] — And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”
Just know this, Adam and Eve began to keep themselves out of the Presence (Light) of God before God kept them out of the Garden of God. You cannot be hiding from the Presence of God and still continue to abide in the Garden or Paradise of God, for the Garden of God must truly be filled with the Light and Presence of God. How would you not want the master of the house in his house but want to continue staying in his house without his presence there?
Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?” [NKJV]
But the Lord God called out to the man, “Where are you?” [BSB]
"Where are you?"
Adam and Eve were yet inside the Garden of God, but they were outside the Presence of God or outside fellowship with God; however, that only brought them to where God's calling to man became necessary. Hence, "Where are you?" came from God as calling to the man. God was talking to man within a short distance and God knew the man could hear Him, and yet God asked the man, "Where are you?"
Asking someone, where are you, presupposes that the person is close enough to hear you calling for him or asking of his whereabout. That quest is not just seeking to hear or be heard, but is a quest seeking to be in the same place with the person or the seeker (either in spirit or body) to share the same feelings and fellowship of being with and where the other person is.
God required where Adam was from Adam, and it's a bit different from God requires where Abel was from Cain: "Adam, where are you?" was different from "Cain, where is your brother." The former means everyone shall give account of himself to God, while the latter means everyone may give account of his brother or another man under his watch.
Therefore:
Walking in His Presence means walking in the light. "If we walk in the light as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin." [1 John 1:7]. But if we hide like Adam from the presence of God, we are not walking in the same light God dwells in, and He may call to us with this question, "Where are you?"
Nevertheless, God still knew Adam where Adam was outside God's Presence. I say this because there are so many people outside God's Presence that God will tell, "I don't even know you where you are." As it is written,
When once the Master of the house has risen up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open for us,’ and He will answer and say to you, ‘I do not know you, where you are from,’ then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.’ But He will say, ‘I tell you I do not know you, where you are from. Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.’ There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and yourselves thrust out. [Luke 13:25-28 NKJV]
"And he said, I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself." [AKJV]
The man answered, “I heard You walking in the garden. I was afraid because I was naked. So I hid.” [ICB]
WHERE ARE YOU? INSTEAD OF, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?
In this Bible verse above, Adam had already come out of hiding and had already put on some covering with fig-leaves: But Adam was confessing he was previously afraid when he heard the voice of God because he was previously naked, and had hid himself before until now he had put on some covering and could come out of hiding to answer God.
He did not say, "I am afraid because I am naked or I am hiding myself;" rather he said, "I was afraid (in the past) because I was naked (in the past); and I hid myself (in the past)." So let's say at the point of Adam saying what he said in the Bible verse above, Adam was no longer afraid, no longer naked or no longer hiding; and that God's question to him, "Adam, where are you?" was already answered.
Safe to say, Adam was not answering the question, "Where are you?" But was rather answering the question, "Where have you been?" Though Satan was the first being in the Bible scriptures that God asked, "Where have you been?" in connection with his lacking appearance or attendance in the presence of God (Job 1:7).
Nevertheless, Adam here was confessing what he did in reaction to hearing the voice of God in the Garden and why he reacted in that manner, and where he was briefly. We all may have different confessions and reasons for the places we had been and the ways we have reacted or responded to hearing the Voices or Motions of God in our Gardens/Hearts. But when our reactions bring us to hiding from God's Presence or bring us into being afraid because we are naked before the Lord, then we have acquired strange knowledge that cannot abide our been naked in God's presence.
However, this does not just apply to our being naked, but to whatever will make us not ready or not waiting for the Lord's coming.
● Adam's distraction at the time of the Lord in the top Bible verse above was Adam's been naked and uncovered.
● Satan's distraction at the times of the Lord in "Job 1:7" was Satan's earthly mindedness or setting all his mind on earthly things and not on heavenly things above.
● The Foolish Virgins distraction at the time of the Lord in "Matthew 25:1-13" was not men but inadequacies of oil for their lights, and their sudden love/value for oil above their love/value for the Bridegroom at last time.
Some sinners and unworthy people have been chosen simply because they were ready and available for the Lord at His coming or presence, while some righteous people were distracted by what they were wearing and how people see them in public like Adam was, or distracted by earthly things like Satan was, or distracted by loving/valuing anointing/oil for their lamps more than receiving the long awaited Lord at the most important time of His Coming like the foolish virgins were. Don't be as Martha, but Mary.
Nevertheless, "Where have you been?" also means haunted by the past, or a way for the past catching up with us or overtaking us as either distraction or defect on us while facing His Presence.
"And he said, Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded you that you should not eat?" [AKJV]
God said to the man, “Who told you that you were naked? Did you eat fruit from that tree? I commanded you not to eat from that tree.” [ICB]
"WHO TOLD YOU"
Frankly, flesh and blood could not have revealed that to Adam, but either the Lord God Himself or the forbidden tree. Just as flesh and blood could not have been able to reveal to Simon Peter that the Second Adam was the Christ, the Son of the Living God; even so, flesh and blood could not have revealed to the first Adam that he was naked. Not even the Serpent knew that secret of their being naked, but only knew that if they ate of the tree their eyes would be opened to know good and evil. So that knowledge about their nakedness could not have been revealed by any earthly being except that tree God told them not to eat.
There are certain knowledge or information which if you have or know them, it proves God alone has revealed it to you or you have hacked into a secret you were not supposed to have access into.
In the Bible verse above, God asked the man two congruent questions, which basically meant the answer to one is the answer to both. One questioned the source of the man's information and the other questioned man's transgression of God's instruction to the man. The presence of that information in man meant the transgression of God's instruction in the man. So it either the man kept God's instruction without having that information, or the man had that information because he had cast away God's instruction. Surely, God did not tell them they were naked, rather God told them not to eat of the forbidden tree. God telling man he was naked was not necessary as long as God already told man not to eat of the forbidden tree. There are information God may not need to worry you with because God already gave you instruction. God's instructions would be better burden to bear than certain information. If you are well instructed of God, whether you are informed or not, you will surely not be deformed.
There was a time Mankind could not be reproached, could not be accused, could not be intimidated, could not be defiled, could not be discouraged, could not be convicted of sin, could not be sentenced to death or penalties, could not be ashamed, etc., because mankind kept the Word of God and had not eaten of the forbidden tree of knowledge of good and evil. Eating of the forbidden tree in disobedience to the Commandment of God, exposed man further into deeper states of nakedness and vulnerability than he was before.
God told man he will die in the day he eats of the tree God told him not to eat, but God did not also tell the man anything about the man's nakedness or made it shameful to them. It was convenient to tell man he was going to die if he eats of the forbidden tree, than to tell man he would discover he's naked if he eats of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. That tree of knowledge of good and evil, forbidden to man by God, did not just expose things to man but exposed man to things. The knowledge that tree brought also came with vulnerability or dangerous risks.
Take this: — Do not throw away God's instructions for any knowledge, information or illumination. "For with much wisdom comes much sorrow, and as knowledge grows, grief increases." [Ecclesiastes 1:18].
Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.” [NKJV]
And the man answered, “The woman whom You gave me, she gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate it.” [BSB]
ADAM'S EXCUSE FOR EATING THE FORBIDDEN FRUIT
The man's defensive answer or argument was that he did not take from the forbidden tree directly and ate, but that he received it at the hand of the woman that came from God, who took it from the forbidden tree, and when he received it at her hand he ate it. Imagine because the Woman of God served it to him as a Roman Catholic Priest serves 'holy communion,' and because the forbidden fruit came from the holy hands of a woman of God, you foolishly ate it; thereby listening to the woman/man of God even in disobedience to the direct Word of God. Do you think if you tell God it was the Woman of God or Man of God that gave, made or told, you to sin the sin, God will punish her/him and spare you?
Adam's excuse revolved around passing the blame onto Eve, who had given him the fruit. He also indirectly shifted responsibility onto God, saying that it was God who bestowed Eve upon him. By pinning the blame on both Eve and God, Adam tried to deflect his own culpability for his decision to eat the forbidden fruit.
In the Bible verse above, the man did not take the fruit directly from the tree, but he took the fruit from the woman's hand after the woman took it from the tree, and he ate the forbidden fruit he received the woman from God. Adam's confession here was indirectly a defense or excuse for eating the forbidden fruit:
● ▪You [God] gave me this woman as gift; I didn't ask You for her, and I received her from You and I have been with her. And then,
● ▪The woman [who is Your gift to me] also gifted or gave me the fruit from the tree; I didn't ask her for it and I did not take it from the tree, and I ate the fruit taken from her hand.
The man did not touch the forbidden tree but he ate the forbidden fruit. Was he thinking the forbidden fruit was no longer forbidden because it was no longer on the forbidden tree? Remember that:
● • Whatever is forbidden by God to man in the tree is also forbidden by God to man in human hands,
● • Whatever is prohibited by God to man in the heavens is also prohibited by God to man on earth,
● • Whatever is called evil by God in the acts of a sinner is also called evil by God in the acts of a man/woman of God.
● • Whatever is an idol/abomination outside the church is still an idol/abomination inside the church.
Do not be deceived by packaging that changed the location, the extension or the appearance of evil from one form to another.
If the Word of God forbade it, but the Woman of God bade it: you must choose between the Word and the Woman, even when both are of God. If the Word of God told the young man of God from Judah not to eat in Samaria, but an old prophet of God told the young man of God to eat in Samaria according to an angel: choose between the Word and the old prophet, both of God. [1 Kings 13]
And the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” [NKJV]
The Lord God asked the woman, “Why did you do this?” She replied, “The snake tricked me into eating it.” [GNT]
Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” “The serpent deceived me,” she replied, “and I ate.” [BSB]
WOMAN, WHAT IS THIS YOU DONE?
God's question to the woman was this, "What is this you have done?" or "Why did you do this?" But the woman's reply was that she was deceived by the Serpent and she ate it. What about the part where "She gave the fruit to her husband and made him eat the forbidden fruit from her hand?" She did not say anything about that part except the part where the Serpent deceived her and she ate, without mentioning part where the Serpent used her or she used her hand to bring down her man or husband.
In the Bible verse above, God's question to the first Woman, (and to every woman), is "What is this you have done or what is this you are doing?" But hardly you find a woman that truly knows and answers this question about what evil she did or yet doing, without mentioning what another person has done or playing the victim for her to be pitied even where she's the perpetrator.
Woman, build up into taking responsibility (which is authority) for your own actions without shifting blame to another person as the cause that made you do them either in retaliation (payback), in rape/use of force, in deception or in seduction. Be the leader (author) in your own actions, not the follower (victim) in your own actions. Try to find the rationality (objectivity), not just the emotions (feelings/instincts), of what you are doing or about to do. Not that you didn't find objectivity the first time you were deceived into doing it, but that when it backfired you suddenly changed from seeing objectivity the way you saw it when you began it, and then you ran to emotional support of blaming another person for it. Though this change or swinging makes you bit secure and free from some blames, it also make you lose your leadership authority or command of headship. You become like men who make promises or decisions when the conditions are favorable, but when the conditions change their words also change and they fail their own promises showing that they should not be trusted nor entrusted with anything headship/authority for being unstable or swinging to easier/favorable sides for convenience in betrayal of trust.
Sarah was the one who gave Hagar as wife to Abraham, and later she turned back to blame Abraham for Hagar's despising her after conceiving. Sarah made a shift from the initial objectivity she saw at that decision.
The objectivity that the Woman (Eve) first saw that made her do what she did was actually the most important part of the answer she should have stood up with in answering this God's Question to a Woman, "What is this you have done?" If she had maintained her stance on the objectivity or rational that made her took those decisions of eating and making her husband eat the forbidden fruit, her actions would still be wrong but her motive would gain some weight and respect for God to still allow her headship or authority with the man. But she failed both in her actions and in her rationality/objectivity of this "what" she had done because she was emotionally driven to blame, implicate or punish the Serpent by playing the victim or follower to the Serpent, instead of playing the leader or author to the man; or both. So she gained the vengeance against the Serpent, but lost authority with the man. Yes, the Serpent became the most cursed creature because of deceiving the woman, but also because the woman was deceived according to her own answer in the verse above she was not allowed to head a family or God's church over a man there in.
[1 Timothy 2:12, 14] — "But I do not permit a woman to teach, nor to use authority over a man, but to be in quietness. … And Adam was not deceived, but the woman, having been deceived, came into transgression."
That word "Deceived" or "Lied to" was first used by a woman in the top Bible verse above, to describe or market (actually "demarked") what she had done.
Though Satan as the Serpent had been a deceiver or liar, the word used for him was "Subtle or Cunning" until the Woman introduced the use of "Deception or Deceit" in describing what the Serpent did instead of her describing what she did when God asked her.
Supposing she "marketed" this which she had done, bringing out the objectivity, rationale, intention, inspiration or motive, she had for doing what she had done, in answering God's question to her: She would have repeated the contents in 'Genesis 3:6' as her drive or objectivity, and then humbly plead for mercy of God: that would be more noble than being deceived.
[Genesis 3:6] — "And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also to her husband with her; and he did eat."
Everything in "Genesis 3:6" was true about that tree and its fruit, and though it is not enough reason to disobey God, it is far more understandable reason if that was her rationality or objectivity — she was a discoverer or she saw things that no man saw or knew about the tree; and her quest for knowledge, discernment and wisdom, for both herself and her husband, made her to eat and to give to her husband also, hoping they become wiser together: but she did not mean to rebel against God's Word for the Serpent told her God would understand if she did what she had done in the quest for becoming more like God and having the eyes of mankind opened to know good and evil. How about this as the Woman's answer to the God's Question to her, "What is this you have done?"
So the Lord God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, you are cursed more than all cattle, and more than every beast of the field; on your belly you shall go, and you shall eat dust all the days of your life. [NKJV]
Then the Lord God told the serpent, “Because of what you've done, you are cursed more than any of the other animals. You will slide along on your belly and eat dust as long as you live. [FBV]
THE FIRST CURSE
1 That would be the first thing/time "the Lord God said to the Devil," which the scriptures delivered to us on this side ever captured. The Serpent began his talk with the woman in this chapter, probing what God has said to her about eating of every tree in the Garden. We are also interested in what God said to the Serpent on that matter and every matter about a man or mankind.
2 "Because you have done this" meant that for what the Serpent has done God is judging the Serpent according to his work, not according to God's feelings, nor anger, nor hatred, if any for the Serpent. It's a righteous judgment, according to the Serpent's deed (work). The Serpent was the first to be judged by God according to his work, after being the first to be praised for his wiseness or craftiness among the creatures of the field God made.
Don't forget what the Serpent had done, for which God herein judged him, was not a physical action but a "Doctrine." Because you have done this, God said to the Serpent: "Done this" implied "Taught this (Doctrine or Deception)" by which the woman was deceived into the transgression. The Serpent did not touch the woman but he taught the woman; and in his conversation with her the Serpent mentioned or used the name of "God" more times than the woman, indicating he spoke to her as a kind of a man of God or prophet. The woman only mentioned "God" once but the Serpent used the name of God twice or more times in talking with her, being very subtle in his approach to the woman.
3 Until then, no curse was on earth but only Blessings of God upon His Creatures. The first curse, that entered the world in the beginning, was the curse that came upon the Serpent. The Serpent was both the first cursed thing and also the most cursed above all living Creatures of the field. And when the Lord God pronounces a person is/as cursed one, the accursed one shall depart from Him [God] and shall go into perdition or into the lake of fire and brimstone prepared for the devil and his angels.
[Matthew 25:41] — "Then He will say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels."
4 The curse upon the serpent was a life-sentence for his wickedness against God, against mankind, against living creatures, and against paradise on earth. The curse was a life imprisonment with hard mobility labor of moving or crawling on the serpent's belly and eating dust all the days of the serpent's life. Therefore, the curse upon the serpent is unbreakable curse, and the serpent cannot be redeemed from the curse during the days of his lifetime. When a curse is irreversible, irredeemable and unbreakable, forever, then the accursed is a son of perdition.
We may not have literally read were God blessed the serpent before but we know the serpent was blessed by being very crafty (wiser) than beasts of the field and fruitful to bear seed of the serpent; but we hereby read God cursed the serpent for the woman's sake.
Let's do some reviews: The serpent that was craftier than any beast of the field became the serpent that is cursed more than all cattle and beasts of the field, for deceiving the woman of God. It also means the Serpent himself was deceived because he did not see the curse or consequences of deceiving someone coming from God's Judgment of his deed. The serpent that was asking the woman of what God said about man's eating of every tree in the garden, and assuring her she will not surely die, (like one of these Pentecostal Pastors that decree and declare prophetically to sinners as if their own words of declarations would supersede the Word of God if they are louder), was himself ignorant of the righteous Judgment of God but only knew a part about the tree of knowledge of good and evil and the prosperity message of that tree he preached and mentored the woman into having. For what he had done to the woman (to the church), he was cursed; and reduced from being the most informed (wisest) among the living creatures of the field into becoming the most abominable and cursed creature among the living creatures.
This is the first lesson that demonstrates, "Any wisdom, knowledge or counsel, against God is either a deception or a curse, or even both."
[Proverbs 21:30] — "There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD."
[Galatians 1:8-10] — "But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be under a curse! As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you embraced, let him be under a curse! Am I now seeking the approval of men, or of God? Or am I striving to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ."
And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.” [NKJV]
And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed. He will crush your head, and you will strike His heel. ” [BSB]
THE GOSPEL OF THE ENMITY
Though the Serpent was foremostly cursed, the Serpent was still dangerous and a potent threat because of this enmity God promised or implemented between the Serpent and the Woman.
1 The Curse was potent: it paralyzed and reduced the Serpent. Nevertheless the Curse did not touch the Serpent's head except that Serpent shall eat dust. This made the Serpent sleek but dangerous seeing the curse only arrested the belly of the Serpent and what goes into his belly, but left out the Serpent's head, tails and offspring (seed) of the Serpent.
2 The Enmity was added here: to arrest and end remaining threats and potencies the Serpent still had to cause problems and damages to the glorious creatures of God, particularly mankind.
In this top Bible verse above, God promised "Retribution" in the name of "Enmity" between the two parties, the Serpent and the Woman, which extended to their offspring (seeds). Instead of God to use the Curse only to fulfill the payback or retribution, God rather reserved some rights and privileges for the Woman and her Seed to use their own hands or will to decide what happens to the Serpent and his seed. But the Serpent too was given the privilege to also bite or inflict damages to the Woman's Seed. For though the curse made the Serpent eat dust, it did not remove the ability to bite, crush, sting, venomize, or inflict wounds with his mouth. Therefore the Serpent that shall eat dust shall also have "teeth" or "power" to bite.
Thus, the vengeance or retribution was awarded to both parties, and it appeared to be in favor of the Serpent here because there was no Seed of the fallen Woman that could have stood up and defeated or harm the Serpent's head in any battle or contest between mankind and the Serpent's head that later became 7 heads when the Serpent was seen as the great Red Dragon in "Revelation 12." But the Word or Promise of God cannot fail, though mankind have fallen or failed.
By implication, the way for the Seed of the Woman to be able to both endure the deadly Serpent's bite on His Heel and still be able to crush the Serpent's head in a battle or fight, without the interference of God or Angel, was by God raising the grace and abilities in the fallen Seed of the Woman to degrees far greater than the Serpent previously knew and had. Thus, God just got the Serpent curious to know who or which of the Woman's Seed will have such grace and power to withstand and crush the Serpent's head. But God kept the mystery of the Woman's Seed either foolish or confusing to the Serpent.
For that part of the prophecy or promise of God to be fulfilled, it means the Woman's Seed must have these four:
*4 — The Woman's Seed must come, though she be a Virgin: This means He must be the Seed of the Woman without the Man: Seed of a Virgin. This was done in the Virgin Birth of the Lord Jesus Christ.
*3 — The Woman's Seed must both inherit and sustain the enmity of the Woman which God implemented between the Woman and the Serpent: This means He must make neither friendship nor affinity with the Serpent the devil; not even being unequivocally yoked together with the enemy just as true light has no fellowship with darkness.
[James 4:4-7 NKJV] — Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”? But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
[Matthew 16:23 NKJV] — But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”
*2 — The Woman's Seed must survive the Serpent's Bite or the Serpent's greatest chances of Retribution or Enmity. This means He must survive the Devil's Stealing, Killing and Death or Destruction thrown at that Seed of the Woman. This was done by and in the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.
*1 — The Woman's Seed must be both worthy and able to bruise or crush the Serpent's Head, even without interference of God.
So which of the Seed of the Woman met all those criteria for guaranteeing the "Gospel of Enmity" between the Woman and the Serpent? For though God made this gospel as promise to the Serpent in awarding retribution, it was the first Gospel of redemption for mankind.
To the woman He said, “I will greatly increase your pain from conception to labor. In pain will you give birth to children. Your desire will be toward your husband, yet he must rule over you.” [Genesis 3:16TLV]
GOSPEL IN THE PENALTY AGAINST THE WOMAN AND HER RELATIONSHIPS
God Himself said this to the Woman, and consider the severity of the statement: for in our days there are social civilizations that would consider this as inappropriate thing to say or to do to a woman. Such philosophy includes, “You don’t hit a woman, you don’t make a woman cry, you don’t disrespect a woman, you don’t put a woman to sorrow and painful labors for that’s domestic violence and abuse, you don’t force a woman to be subject to the man/husband because that’s removing women’s right against woman’s emancipation and gender equality, etc.”
To some extent I agree with them, for Adam should never say or do those things to the Woman or to his wife, Eve (the Bone of his bones and flesh of his flesh). But while a man should not say or do that, God Himself is the Judge and Lord of all, and He alone could say and do those and even more to Women both here on earth, in death and in hell fire. I tell you, before God began the punishment of the man, He began the punishment of the woman. Woman first received the wrath of God before Man did; and averagely, more women are receiving God’s judgment than the men.
I am inspired to write this to warn women who think that God is like the society where women are treated like goddesses and queens, and favored above the men. The Lord God is the Righteous Judge, and He judges both male and female, men and women, weak and strong, each person is righteously judged according to his/her deeds and roles. Woman, you are not getting away with the things you do against the man or against the Word of God; and Man, you are not getting away with the things you do against the woman or against the Word of God. God is no respecter of men, neither is God a respecter of women, in God’s righteous judgment.
So a man must never maltreat his wife nor even do what God is doing to her in the top Bible Verse above: It’s not a man’s thing to do, but God’s thing to do. Let God judge between you and your wife or your husband, not you judging your wife or your husband by your own self. Like Sarah said to Abraham her husband, “…the LORD judge between me and you.”
She said this because Abraham was gaining another woman in a way that meant robbing or defrauding the first woman, Sarah, his wife. You see she did not take the law into her hands, neither did she take Abraham to court or law enforcement agents to settle them; but she allowed the LORD to be the judge between she and her husband.
And the danger with man maltreating his wife includes, “The man’s prayers shall be blocked or hindered” and “The man’s faith is cut off and he is considered worse than infidel or worse than unbeliever” before God. Imagine Abraham that was supposed to be a great example of faith, suddenly become worse than unbeliever simply because he did not provide for his wife and family as the Lord Jesus Christ loved and nourished His Church.
-- [1 Peter 3:7 TLV] -- In the same way, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way. Though they are weaker partners, honor them as equal heirs of the grace of life. In this way, your prayers will not be hindered.
Sarah’s was example of a wife maltreated by her husband, but she let the LORD be the judge between she and her husband without letting any other man into the secret of her husband seeing another woman to the point that the woman he’s sleeping with is robbing or maltreating her in her own matrimony. What of example of a husband maltreated by his wife, and he did not take laws into his own hand to either fight, beat or oppress her, but he only reported her to the Lord God, who became the Judge between him and his wife? That was Adam, who reported Eve his wife to God; and God judged her in the top bible verse above.
According to Adam, “The woman (wife) You gave to be with me gave me of the forbidden tree, and I ate.” Though Adam’s fault was that he listened to his wife more than he listened to God, yet because he had reported his wife to God the Judge He must punish her as the Lord must punish the Church that is not subject to Him but feeds His people with things offered to idols (wrong doctrines) and fornication (worldliness). To the woman He said, I will greatly increase your sorrow and your conception. In pain you shall bear children, and your desire shall be toward your husband, and he shall rule over you. -- [Genesis 3:16] In comparing and contrasting with that which the LORD God said to the Serpent before, let me make these two points under this top bible verse above:
1 This Penalty against the Woman came without previous warning like the one that came against the Serpent. This is to imply that there was no previous “Warning” nor “Precedence” that such punishment would befall him or her for doing what they did. The only previous warning of God was against eating of the forbidden tree, with assurance of death to man if he eats of the forbidden tree. But no previous warning of God about what will befall the person who would seduce, deceive or give another person false/wrong doctrines or immorality of eating it. Therefore, neither the Serpent nor the Woman saw the Penalties coming against their giving wrong advice, wrong doctrines, misleading information or seduction of the other person. They taught the penalties or consequences would only affect the people who broke the commandment, not knowing they who taught, deceived or seduced the people shall also be dealt with more severely with unseen and unheard curse, sorrow, pains etc.
2 This Penalty against the Woman would affect her in relationship with the man like the one that came against the Serpent affected the Serpent in relationship with the woman and her Seed. The relationship between the Serpent and the Woman was turned into enmity. But between the woman and her husband, the relationship is not enmity but with complications in affinity inspite of sorrows involved in her desire for the man and for childbearing. She would have to bear pains, sorrows or sufferings, not from enemies or strangers this time, but from her own family husband and fruit bearing. Therefore, the penalty against the woman brought complications in relationships between the woman and her own body (menstruations and complications of conceptions), and between the woman and her own husband.
Nevertheless, her labor comes with reward for it; it is not laboring in vain, but laboring and bearing in gain. Gain is the fruit of the Woman’s endurance and labor, not Vain. God had to turn her sorrows into joy and gain because of us the Church and disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ yet to come. As it is written,
-- [John 16:20-22 MKJV] -- Truly, truly, I say to you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. And you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy. The woman has grief when she bears, because her hour has come. But when she brings forth the child, she no longer remembers the anguish, because of the joy that a man is born into the world. And therefore you now have sorrow. But I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.
And He said to the man, “You listened to your wife and ate the fruit which I told you not to eat. Because of what you have done, the ground will be under a curse. You will have to work hard all your life to make it produce enough food for you. [GNT]
WHEN GOD CONVICTS SINNER THAT FEELS RIGHTEOUS
Notice that God convicted Adam or showed Adam his fault first before or while making His ruling here.
1 When God spoke with the Serpent, He did not convict the Serpent because the woman already convicted or indicted (accused rightly) the Serpent, which was adopted without argument or controversy.
2 When God spoke with the Woman, He did not convict the Woman because the Man already convicted or indicted (accused rightly) the Woman, which was adopted without argument or controversy.
3 But here as God spoke with the Man here, He first convicted the Man because no one or no conscience already convicted or indicted (accused rightly) the Man, who still felt he was blameless in the matter for he was not the actor but the pawn in the matter.
Here was God's conviction(s) to Adam: (Instead of one conviction now, it became two or more convictions because He allowed God to search him out Himself instead of him judging himself so that God would not have to judge him):
"A" — Convicted Adam of listened to his wife rather than to God.
Some think that the ears do not commit sin by hearing or listening, only the mouths are capable of committing sins: But the first sin of Adam the first human was the sin of listening or hearing to someone.
[Luke 8:18] — "Be careful therefore how you hear: for whoever has, to him shall be given; and whoever has not, from him shall be taken even that which he seems to have."
[Ecclesiastes 7:21] — "Do not pay attention to every word that is spoken, or you may hear your servant cursing you." ________________________________________ "B" — Convicted Adam of eating of the tree God told him not to eat, even though Adam did not touch the tree nor pluck the fruit from the tree.
What a great conviction or indictment! Instead of one, it became double transgressions against Adam. That is, Adam figuratively ate of the forbidden tree twice, though he did it once: One he listened to his wife when the wife already ate the fruit of that tree, and became like an extension of the forbidden tree to him. So as soon as his wife already ate of the forbidden tree, she was in transgression or she was metaphorically a part of the forbidden tree, and her hand was as a Branch of the forbidden tree extending the fruit to Adam. So, Adam listening to his wife after she was initiated then was already as Adam feeding from the forbidden tree…
Well, all these may not make sense to you now, but when you experience God's power of conviction or judgment interpreting/analyzing things to you, you would be amazed how things you thought were blameless or innocent suddenly become faulty and despicable. Ask Job who thought he was righteous and blameless until God massively convicted him, and he abhorred himself and repented in dust and ashes. Even Job claimed he was not hiding his sin as Adam was hiding according to "Job 31:33."
[Psalms 19:11-14] — "Moreover by them is Your servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward. Who can understand his errors? Cleanse You me from secret faults. Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression. Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer."
Better judge yourself to avoid the Lord doing it Himself, and even when you judge yourself you may not see some errors in your spirit because you are relatively blind to some of your own errors or faults. Therefore, God's judgment is way better than yours, but still judge yourself and approach His judgment with humility.
[Proverbs 16:2] — "All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weighs the spirits."
There's an "Aura" everyone carries in his/her soul-spirit being, just as every man carries unique body odor. The aura of your soul-spirit being either reveals you are "foul spirit" or you are "pure/virtuous spirit" in divers degrees. The evil and uncleanness people do are written in the aura of their spirit-soul being forever, and the purity or fruits of the Spirit people bear are also written in the aura of their spirit-soul being forever. So it's hard to endure or stay with some people no matter how rich and wealthy they are in gold and material wealth, because they have foul aura and are repulsive, though they have prosperity. ________________________________________ "C" — Holding Adam responsible as the "Cause" for the "Curse" on the ground. The third way God convicted Adam was by putting blame on him or implicating Adam by holding Adam responsible for something that's about to get damaged or result from what he did in the past: It is called, "Imputing sin" on someone.
Shebi Adam think say him sabi push blame on the woman? God go teach am how to push blame.
For God cursed the ground for the sake of Adam: and then almost every man blamed Adam for the death and sufferings and for losing the first paradise, and even the ground blamed Adam for the curse on it, and so the ground rebelled against yielding easily to Adam's efforts. Infact, in the New Testament, Paul blamed Adam couple of times, saying, "My one man's transgression, many were made sinners" or "In Adam, all men died." Etc.
Remember, Adam began blaming the Woman and the Lord who gave her to be with him for giving him the fruit: and Adam was feeling blameless. Now, God imputed blame implicating, indicting Adam as the cause or the reason for the fall of mankind and the ground for his sake, all the days of his life before he died. But thank God for the Lord Jesus Christ, who took away the sins of Adam and the sins of all men upon Himself and died to end sins.
It will produce weeds and thorns, and you will have to eat wild plants. [GNT]
Both thorns and thistles it will yield for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. [BSB]
REAPING WHERE ONE DID NOT SOW
In principle of God's Judgment, "What a man sows, he'll reap." But in the Bible verse above, Adam would be reaping the thorns and thistles he did not sow and eating the herbs he did not plant.
[Matthew 25:24] — "Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew You that You are an hard Man, reaping where You have not sown, and gathering where You have not strewed:"
This could mean a blessing or curse, a Garden of Eden or desert. Adam experienced it (reaping where he did not sow) both as a blessing and later as a curse, both as a Garden of Eden and later as a desert. In the top Bible verse above, God was reversing it from being a blessing to becoming a curse, from a Garden of Eden (blessed ground) where the ground produced trees for Adam and he ate fruits to a cursed ground where the ground produced thorns and thistles for Adam and he ate herbs instead of fruits.
[Hebrews 6:7-8 BSB'19] — "For land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is tended receives the blessing of God. But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless, and its curse is imminent. In the end it will be burned."
The ground that was cursed for Adam's sake would still have the Fertility or productive capacity to yield or bear thorns, thistles, wild plants or wild herbs and even poisonous plants, etc., but would not easily yield the fruits of what Adam would sow in it. This means, when God cursed the ground for Adam's sake, the curse did not disable the ground's productive strength; instead the ground also produced offspring and harvests for the curse, for the curse of the ground for Adam's sake became seed sown.
So that curse was not just destructive, but reproductive and multiplicative, having abilities to grow descendants or offspring. The curse is like the tares the enemy planted in the field, while the ground is like the field: and the Lord said, "Let them grow together with the good plants until the harvest…" So the same fertility and strength the ground assigns to the good plants, it also assigns to the evil or cursed plants. Whatever gets sown is entitled to getting reaped or growths.
Be not deceived, "Whatever a man sows, that shall he also reap." [Galatians 6:7]. But Adam did not sow the curse nor the thorns/thistles, yet even those things he did not sowed he would reap together with eating herbs he did not sow. That's because the curse that sowed those things in the ground is "Curse for Adam's sake." He did not sow the "Curse," but sowed the "Cause for the Curse" which is same as sowing the Curse.
[Jeremiah 12:10, 13] — "Many Pastors have destroyed My vineyard, they have trodden My portion under foot, they have made My pleasant portion a desolate wilderness. … They have sown wheat, but shall reap thorns: they have put themselves to pain, but shall not profit: and they shall be ashamed of your revenues because of the fierce anger of the LORD."
Causing the anger of the Lord to come is a way of reaping thorns (curse) which you did not sow. Let it not be for your sake or your cause why God's fierce and destructive anger is sown as curse or plague on earth.
Please add Mosquitoes and other sting-piercing insects to the list of thorns and thistles mankind are experiencing, after all Mosquitoes and stinging insects/animals have their stingers as thorns, thistles or needed syringes that takes away good blood from people and animals, and inject parasites/diseases into them instead. Therefore, Mosquitoes and stinging animals are injections and thorns but are evil injections because they are not injecting herbs (medicines) into people as thorns/thistles, but injecting sicknesses and parasite
You will have to work hard and sweat to make the soil produce anything, until you go back to the soil from which you were formed. You were made from soil, and you will become soil again.” [GNT]
By the sweat of your brow you will eat your bread, until you return to the ground— because out of it were you taken. For dust you are, and to dust you shall return.” [BSB]
Under the curse, man's face had to produce sweat before the ground would produce food for the man, and yet both the food and the man shall return to the ground from they were taken from. Basically, the tree of knowledge of good and evil told man they were naked, but God told man they were dust: Adam neither knew he was naked nor knew he was dust before the serpent got into the woman.
These are vanity to man:
● ▪Man had to sweat to eat food, and then had to eat food to sweat again, etc.
● ▪Man was taken out of dust to struggle all the days of his life, only to return to the dust again from where he's taken.
● ▪The ground was cursed for man's sake, and yet the man shall return to the ground that was cursed for man's sake; implying the man shall again be partaker of the cursed ground.
Nevertheless, the death was the end of the curse and suffering on the surface of the earth to the man, and door to new beginning or world to man. God, who made the man a living soul also, forms the spirit of man within the man. The man who returns to dust of the ground may still be retaken and reformed from the dust of the ground above being a living soul to be a living spirit.
Take up this Assignment: [1 Corinthians 15:20-22] — "But now Christ has come back from the dead. He is the very first person of those who have died to come back to life. Since a man brought death, a man also brought life back from death. As everyone dies because of Adam, so also everyone will be made alive because of Christ."
THE ROOT OF THE VANITIES AND THE GOSPEL OF LIFE The “Vanities of life” have these 6 points to say from the top bible verse above: ●▪ Under the curse, man's face had to produce sweat before the ground would produce food for the man, and yet both the food and the man shall return to the ground from they were taken from.
●▪ Basically, the tree of knowledge of good and evil told man he was naked, but it was God who told man he was dust: Adam neither knew he was naked nor knew he was dust before the serpent got through the woman. The One who told the man he was dust told him more truth but also did him more damage by that truth and revelation than the one who told the man he was naked: For by telling the man he was naked, it only shortened his glory; while by telling the man he was dust, it shortened his life and death arose.
●▪ By sweat of his face, the man shall eat bread; but because no amount of sweat of his face would guarantee him the right to eat of the tree of life, the man will still return to the dust in death and mortality at the end of his days no matter how much he had eaten: For it’s not in how much food eaten, but in how much days (time) left.
●▪Man had to sweat to eat food, and then had to eat food to sweat again, etc.
●▪Man was taken out of dust to struggle all the days of his life, only to return to the dust again from where he's taken.
●▪The ground was cursed for man's sake, and yet the man shall return to the ground that was cursed for man's sake; implying the man shall again be partaker of the cursed ground. The “Gospel of life” have these 3 points to say from the top bible verse above: a The “Gospel of the Returning of Man:” There is a “Returning” which means a “Restoration.” Return is better than U-turn: for Return means “Restoration” while U-turn means “Repentance.”
b The “Gospel of the Returning of Man:” The man was to return to the ground where he was taken from, but did you know He or what made the man to be taken from there the first place would still be there to take the man again from there the second time? That urge, that strong desire or that Person who delighted to take the man from the dust would even come down stronger and go into that dust to take the man again from the dust in what is called Resurrection from the dead. There shall be a “Re-Taking of the man again from the dust/death, after the man is returned to the dust where he was taken from the first time. As it is written,
[Isaiah 26:19 TS2009] - Let your dead live, together with My Dead Body, let them arise. Awake and sing, you who dwell in dust; for your dew is a dew of light, and let the earth give birth to the departed spirits.
Again, it is written,
[1 Corinthians 15:20-22] — "But now Christ has come back from the dead. He is the very first Person of those who have died to come back to life. Since a man brought death, a Man also brought life back from death. As everyone dies because of Adam, so also everyone will be made alive because of Christ."
c The “Gospel of the Son of God better than the Tree of life:” The man was prevented from reaching and eating of the tree of life so that this Word of God about his returning to dust in the top bible verse above would be fulfilled; but in returning to dust Something and Someone greater than the tree of life, giving eternal life better than the tree of life, came to him in dust to take him from the dust forever and give him the eternal life he could not access by the tree of life. This is called, “Salvation of Adam.”
This is even better and easier, for he did not have to struggle to reach the tree of life and then to get its fruit, so that coming to where the tree of life stands would be necessary; rather he can now have or receive everlasting life by faith wherever he is and no matter the distance apart, just by believing in the Son of God, Jesus Christ. As it is written,
[John 3:16 MKJV] - For God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
And the man called his wife’s name “Awwah,” because she became the mother of all living. -- [TS2009] See why no miscarriage, no abortion, no stillbirth, no barrenness, could succeed in this Woman's Womb…
EVE – MOTHER OF ALL LIVING
She had not yet become pregnant with a child neither had any man known (had sex with) her when she became “Eve” the Mother of all living. It’s not by her children nor by sexual intercourse as in by flesh or carnal children, but by spiritual or children of promise or by the Word of God and the Seed of the Woman, the Lord of Glory. It’s like how a virgin, Mary, who had not known (had sex with) man being a virgin was the blessed among women because of the fruit of her womb, who was the Lord of glory. Sarah too was a mother of spiritual children and mother in superior capacity, being called, “Sarah” which meant, “Mother of many nations and kings” even when she had no single child and had been barren.
If you became a mother only by your physical and carnal children of the flesh, you are a mother after the flesh. But being a Spiritual Mother is as being like the Heavenly City of Jerusalem in heaven above. As it is written,
[Galatians 4:26-29] - But the Jerusalem above is free—she is our Mother. For it is written: “Rejoice, O barren woman who bears no children. Break forth and shout, you who suffer no labor pains. For more are the children of the desolate than of the one who has a husband.” Now you, brothers and sisters—like Isaac, you are children of promise. But just as at that time the one born according to the flesh persecuted the one born according to the Spirit, so it is now.
Behold the wisdom of God that defeated that of the Serpent pertaining the woman. Certain things about the woman were kept hidden and secret before the fall of man, but were revealed after the fall of man; and if the devil had known them he would not have deceived the woman in the way he did but would have used another method. It’s as it happened in mysteries of Christ, which if the devil knew he would not have crucified the Lord of Glory.
It’s all in the mystery of “the Motherhood and the Seed of the Woman” – the Lord of Glory. Not even Adam knew those mysteries about the Woman until God began to declare them after the Serpent was cursed for her sake.
Before then, all Adam knew about her were in connection with her being a Woman or a Wife for she was taken out of him. Those were the things that point to her failure, but she became transformed by the grace of God and another hidden calling and grace of God in her emerged after her most terrible mistake.
The woman’s story was not just the first story of a man who fell into transgression and sin, but also the first story of a transformed man who received grace through the Lord Jesus Christ. Yes, Adam and Eve first received the Lord Jesus Christ before any other man/woman on earth ever received the Lord Jesus Christ. The Woman became Eve, meaning the Woman became the mother of all living. I have seen a woman I used to know as a harlot, became so transformed by the grace of God into becoming a sister in the Lord Jesus Christ and a mother of her children: and I was ashamed of having written her off when she was a harlot or sinner.
Adam became a living soul when God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, but Eve became the mother of all living when God declared the destiny and calling of her Seed, who would give life to all the living, and declared her bringing forth children of her womb even though it was to be in sorrow and pains.
After the woman gave the man the forbidden fruit, the man still gave the woman the name Eve. What had happened only prevented them from bringing all of us into everlasting life before death, but did not prevent them from bringing all of us into living.
That name, Eve or Awwah (Hauwa, or Evah) means “Life-giver.” It's not only the tree of life that had life to its name, for Eve now had life to her name as a life giver also though not as the tree of life gives. Adam gave her the new name, Eve and held her tighter to him as his wife in the top bible verse above, against divorcing her or still accusing her for the forbidden fruit she ate and brought into their family. This meant Adam shifted from looking at her “Past” into looking at her “Future;” from looking at where she was taken from and what she took with her and brought to their family (her transgression) into now looking at her future and those who shall come out of her, (including the Lord Jesus Christ and us who came out of her) as a new source of hope and redemption for the fallen man.
Again, I repeat: The name "Eve" means "Living" or "Enlivening." Adam gave her that name, Eve, because she was the mother of all the living, not the mother of the dead. Before they would die, many shall become living through them. She might not be the mother of all the seeds, but she's the mother of all the living even before she conceived any child of her womb. Multiplying her sorrow, pangs and travails of conception, to childbearing was not meant to keep her from being the mother of all the living, but to keep her from wasting the living.
As for her, it's no longer about being a woman because she was taken out of the man, but now about being Eve because the living children shall be taken out of her. Though she had giving her husband a fruit of death, the fruit of her womb is not the fruit of the dead but the fruit of the living. It was not possible for the womb of Eve to bear any dead person, or stillbirth or miscarriage or aborted child, no matter the sorrow in her child bearing. She’s the mother of all living, and she never aborted or killed any living. No seed of Adam was wasted in her, and no living died inside her. That’s a true “Mother of all Living.”
Declare that you yourself or your wife will be mother of the living, not mother of the dead; that none of your children shall be born dead, nor still birth, nor miscarriage, nor abortion of the living, from your womb or your wife's womb; and that even if anyone of your child dies prematurely he/she shall continue to live and his/her blood shall keep speaking just as though Abel was dead and yet he lived on and his blood kept speaking, for the mother of Abel (Eve) was the mother of the living. The forbidden fruit of death in her part could not make her mother of the dead, but grace made her mother of the living.
And the Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife, and He clothed them. [BSB]
GOD PROVIDED AND CLOTHED THEM
In this Bible verse above, God did two things for the man and his wife:
1 God made for them garments or coats of skins;
2 God clothed them with the garments He made for them.
The two deeds may be very related or supposedly seen as one act, but there's difference between God providing your clothes and God Himself clothing you with them. There's greater honor and fashion in God clothing you and your wife/husband Himself, more than God providing the clothes for you to clothe yourself. It's like a promotional ceremony of military officer, wherein a superior dresses the man who's receiving the promotion or higher rank.
Some said God would not do for you what He has empowered you with ability to do yourself or do for yourself: but I do not fully agree with that.
Infact, there are things God gave you ability to do yourself or for yourself, which you should not still do yourself or for yourself but seek/wait for God to do them for you no matter how much power and ability you have to do them for yourself. One of those things is "Exalting yourself," another is trying to save your own life against lose it for the Savior Jesus Christ. It's not in whether you would successfully do them yourself and for yourself but in the reality that unless the Lord builds a city those who build labor but in vain. Adam and Eve fell because they were deceived into trying to do for themselves the knowledge of good and evil or becoming as the gods, against waiting for the Lord to make them and make for them what they needed or desired.
Nevertheless, I am not sure Adam and Eve could make for themselves garments of skins at that stage, neither am I sure they could put on the garments God made for them by themselves without God's help. Let us yearn for this from God above all our homes on earth — To be clothed by God Himself with garments of immortality, rather than with garments of skins as Adam and Eve were in the Bible verse above. To be clothed with garments of skins makes people susceptible to things that penetrate animal skins as the animals; but to be clothed with immortality makes people become immortal or be like the angels of Elohim rather than the animals under skins.
[2 Corinthians 5:3-5] — "If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed on, that mortality might be swallowed up of life. Now He that has worked us for the selfsame thing is God, who also has given to us the earnest of the Spirit."
Here are the two basic points in this commentary:
1*1 — Seek God to clothe you with immortality or eternal light above God clothing you with skin or flesh.
2*2 — Seek God to minister to you above God providing for you. He's not just "Jehovah Jireh" but also the Minister.
In the spiritual realms, providing is different from ministering; and somehow, more honor is given to the people who minister above the people who provide. It is not, "I was naked you provided clothes for Me (as a provider);" but this, "I was naked you clothed Me (as a minister)." It is not, "I was hungry you provided food for Me (as a provider);" but this, "I was hungry you fed me (as a minister)." It is not, "I was thirsty you provided water for Me (as a provider);" but this, "I was thirsty you gave Me drink (not just gave Me water, but gave Me drink of water or any drink as a minister)." It is this, "I was sick, in prison, etc., and "you ministered to Me" not "you provided for Me."
You must differentiate between "Ministering to the saints" and "Providing for the saints." God made for them garments of skins (Provided for them), and God clothed them (Ministered to them). Pastors and Teachers are to feed the Flock/Sheep, not just to provide food for them. It's not enough for the parents to provide the food for the baby, but they have to feed the baby the baby because the baby may not be able to feed on the food provided. Imagine God called me to be a teacher of His Word, and at the end of my assignment I stand before Him and in giving account of my ministry I tell God that I bought and shared thousands of Bible and Christian Books to people who could read, instead of feeding them I provided them with the food packages for them to feed themselves. Is that actually an "Account of my Ministry?" Is that not instead an "Account of my Goodworks or my Charity/Generosity?" Ministry is different from Charity works or Goodworks: Your Ministry is your Services, not your Provisions or Offerings. I am not just giving you foodstuffs, I am feeding you.
There churches that celebrate those who give fatter offerings and Provisions above those who minister in songs, minister in serving the table, serving food, servicing the church, sweeping and cleaning the church, church workers etc. But in the kingdom of God, those providing services (ministering) to the saints are giving greater honor than those who sit and receive the services but only give the greatest offerings, provisions, donations, etc.
Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”— [NKJV]
Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil. And now, lest he reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever...” [BSB]
Here you will understand that the program and dealing of God with mankind was changed, and the reason is clear. God had to change how he was relating or dealing with mankind because mankind had become unworthy of God’s first program and dealing with them by two reasons, one is breaking God’s commandment or covenant and two is knowing good and evil.
Keywords:
In the bible verse above, “The Lord God said…” and that which the Lord God said was the last word God said or spoken both in this chapter and in the bible’s account of Adam being in the paradise of Eden before the eventual fall of man out of Eden. And actually, in this word is the basic reason mankind was cast out of heaven (the first heaven or Eden); and therefore, the fall of man.
This Word of God in the Bible verse above was a “Word of Knowledge” that preempted the “Knowledge of good and evil” in mankind. Before the knowledge of good and evil could conceive in man the idea of eating of the tree of life and living forever, the “Word of Knowledge” or “Foreknowledge” of God said or revealed it to the Godhead. Before any knowledge reveals any thought/idea to you or to any man, the Word of Knowledge (Foreknowledge) would have revealed it to God already. This means, there is a preemptive or foreknowledge that predicts or foretell to God what every other knowledge would reveal to man. Example, in “Ezekiel 38:10” God revealed ideas or thought that will come into people’s mind beforehand.
O LORD, you have examined me, and you know me. You alone know when I sit down and when I get up. You read my thoughts from far away. You watch me when I travel and when I rest. You are familiar with all my ways. Even before there is a single word on my tongue, you know all about it, LORD. You are all around me—in front of me and in back of me. You lay Your Hand on me. Such knowledge is beyond my grasp. It is so high I cannot reach it. Where can I go to get away from Your Spirit? Where can I run to get away from You? If I go up to heaven, You are there. If I make my bed in hell, You are there. If I climb upward on the rays of the morning sun or land on the most distant shore of the sea where the sun sets, even there Your Hand would guide me and Your Right Hand would hold on to me. If I say, “Let the darkness hide me and let the light around me turn into night,” even the darkness is not too dark for You. Night is as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to You? -- [Psalms 139:1-12 GW]
Back to the top bible verse above, where we see man becoming as God(s) but not sure whether that’s good or evil for the man. A question arose thus, “How is that a fall when it is becoming as God?”
Why do we say “The Fall of Adam” or “Fall of Man” if God admitted the man became as one of the Godhead? Shouldn’t that be celebrated as man’s achievement rather than mourning over that as man’s fall?
Becoming as God without God means a great fall. If you successfully become as God without God Himself making you as God, you are fallen. The fall of mankind and the fall of Lucifer were both linked to becoming as God without God’s doing or approving that. As it is written,
How are you fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How are you cut down to the ground, who didst weaken the nations! For you have said in your heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet you shall be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. - [Isaiah 14:12-15]
Even Lucifer attempted being like the most high, but without the Most High approving it with grace. The antichrist too would become as God without God approving it with grace, and that would become his great fall into perdition. As it is written,
Who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sits in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. - [2 Thessalonians 2:4 KJV]
Again,
Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyrus, Thus said the Lord GOD; Because your heart is lifted up, and you have said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet you are a man, and not God, though you set your heart as the heart of God: - [Ezekiel 28:2 KJV]
So the first mistake already made was Adam becoming as God (in knowledge of good and evil) without God approving that with grace. But the second mistake must be prevented, which would be “Adam becoming immortal” by his own hand (without God approving that with grace).
His hand – Not by hand, to live forever (immortality). In the top bible verse, the bible versions I cited mentioned something the man’s hand must not be allowed to do for the man to live forever. Some other bible versions did not mention hand, but hand of man was key in understanding the point here.
Eternal life or immortality for man must be by God, not by man’s hands. You must be saved by grace through faith, not by your works, lest any man should boast (Ephesians 2:8-9). God does not want the tree of life to be what gives man eternal life; but wants man to have eternal life through Him (the Lord Jesus Christ) before man eats of the tree of life. So by the time we eat of the tree of life, we would have already gotten eternal life or already living forever before the tree of life becomes just icing of the cake.
Eternal life is inside the Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ. It is not inside heaven for you to have it, neither is eternal life kept for you on a tree for you to go and get it there: Eternal life is kept for you inside God the Lord Jesus Christ for you to believe and abide in Him and He gives you eternal life for you to live forever through His Resurrection from the dead and endless life.
Behold, the man gained the Knowledge of good and evil and gained God’s acknowledgement but lost God’s trust. It’s like a boy-child who was getting the privilege of bathing among naked bathing women and ladies when he was without knowledge or ignorance as a little child; but as soon as the boy gained knowledge and aware of certain things, he gained some acknowledgment but lost trust or privilege of such exposures.
therefore the Lord God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken. [NKJV]
So the Lord God sent them out of the Garden of Eden and made them cultivate the soil from which they had been formed. [GNT]
Therefore the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. [BSB]
DISTRACTED BY OCCUPATIONS
In this Bible verse, even though the main reason God was casting mankind out of the Garden (heaven) was to keep mankind from stretching out their hand and eating of the tree of life and thereby living forever by their own innovation or handwork, God wisely made it appear to mankind that it was for the purpose of tilling the ground or doing an earthly project (distracting them from setting their mind on spiritual, heavenly and eternal things, because they were occupied with goals, purposes and activities of earthly things - tilling the ground).
God began doing this to mankind, making them to focus and occupied on earthly or worldly things, neglecting the spiritual, heavenly and eternal things: thereby, God hides the most important purposes and secrets of eternal life from mankind, while they are busy chasing after vanities (tilling the ground they were taken from, but never able to take anything out of this world).
When God was banishing the man from the paradise of God, He made the banishment appear like He was drafting or sending the man to perform a course, a work or assignment somewhere else. Adam was the to be sent out by God from heaven (paradise/garden) to the ground to fulfill his husbandry purpose on the earth's ground. As it is written,
[Ecclesiastes 3:9-11] — "What do working people gain from their hard labor? I have seen the burden that God has laid on men to occupy them. It is beautiful how God has done everything at the right time. He has put the world in people’s minds so that mortals will not know what God is doing from the beginning to the end of time."
However, the Lord Jesus Christ sets His Disciples free from the bondage of living for earthly or worldly things, neglecting the spiritual, heavenly, needful and the eternal things. He instructed His disciples, seek first the Kingdom of God, and do not lay up treasure on earth but in heaven. Set your mind on things that are above in the heavens where Christ is sitted at God's Right Hand; not the carnality and distraction of earthly things.
Though the Book of Adam and Eve show us that Adam and Eve struggled to regain the Garden heaven instead of getting occupied with earthly things (tilling the ground), the Bible verse above painted the picture of God sending or casting them out but giving them a purpose or assignment for the ground just to occupy them.
If you are wise, you will set your mind and heart more on heavenly, needful, spiritual and eternal things, than your occupations, career, family, business, school, marriages, eating and drinking, and earthly things generally. Do not waste your lifetime, there's eternity after this life.
● ▪The mission for which God sent Adam out of the first heaven to do on the ground was to keep him far away from the tree of life in the heaven or garden.
● ▪The mission for which God sent Adam out of the first heaven to do on ground was to make him serve his sentence or penalties as suffering for his sin.
● ▪The mission for which God sent Adam out of the first heaven to do on ground was to occupy Adam until he dies.
● ▪The mission for which God sent Adam out of the first heaven to do on ground was a restitution to the ground, returning Adam back to the ground he was taken from, as God returned the woman back to the man she was taken from.
● ▪Basically the mission for which God sent Adam out of the first heaven to do on ground was to place Adam in position where all that God said to them would be fulfilled upon them.
Nevertheless, the banishment or mission ends when Adam is dead and then, Adam would be returning to the third heaven and to access the tree of life through the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the Garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life. [NKJV]
So He drove out the man and stationed cherubim on the east side of the Garden of Eden, along with a whirling sword of flame to guard the way to the tree of life. [BSB]
"MAN WAS BANISHED, BUT NOT BANNED, FROM HEAVEN"
In this bible verse above, God drove mankind out of the Garden [banished but not banned], then placed Cherubim at the East of the Garden [meaning mankind was driving out from the West of the Garden], and also set up special kind of “Laser Beam” or “Cutting Light” called “Flaming Sword” that turns all direction to guard the Way to the Tree of life.
Notice,
Now understand, it appeared sending the man out of the garden's heaven did not get the man out, and so God rather drove the man out of the garden's heaven. God banished man from the garden containing the tree of life, and still placed His cherubim and flaming sword to guard the way to the tree of life. It was not the devil that took those measures to deny mankind access to the tree of life, but God did so. In life, the devil does not care the Way you get things for yourself; but God cares and judges the way. In that case, the road map to gaining life (tree of life) became the road to getting killed or way to die for the life so desired. Man had to give up his life to gain the greater life (everlasting life) the tree of life offers. Any man who must get to the tree of life then must be killed either by the cherubim or the flaming sword. This is similar to the road map the Lord Jesus revealed to us, saying,
[John 12:24-25] — "Truly, truly, I say to you, Unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it abides alone; but if it dies, it brings forth much fruit. He who loves his life shall lose it. And he who hates his life in this world shall keep it to life eternal."
God drove the man out but He did not keep the man out. The cherubim and flaming sword were brought to keep/guard the way to the tree of life, but not to close or shutdown the way. It was to make the way to the tree of life harder, but not impossible, to the man from whence the man could just put forth his hand to take of the tree of life to where the man must now put forth his heart and his life for same access to the tree of life. Just as God was not blocking the man from eating food but made it harder for him (so that man had to sweat before he finds his food from the ground), so also God wanted the man to go through the losing of his life to find the eternal life such as is in the tree of life. This is about faith and value, not about rejection.
God drove the man out of the garden but brought cherubim and flaming sword into the garden to guard the way to the tree of life. In that realm, the way is the same as the door or gate. Having access through a way means having access through a door or gate. Supernatural Security Forces took over man's work in the first heaven or garden of God as soon as the man was driven or cast out.
Nevertheless, mankind now have a new and living Way, and a new and living Door, to access the tree of life; not just in that garden anymore where man was driven away from, but in a new and far better paradise and new City that is eternal through the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. This new Way or Door to eternal life is not a way that cherubim or supernatural security forces need to guard or keep; but the Way or Door that keeps cherubim and keeps everything in the New Heaven and New Paradise. The Lord Himself is the Way and the Door, and He is the Son of man.
Take up this Assignment:
[Revelation 22:14-15]—Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.
[Luke 13:25-30] — "And once the Master of the house has risen up and has shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us, and He shall answer and say to you, I do not know you; from where are you; then you shall begin to say, We ate and drank in Your presence, and You have taught in our streets. But He shall say, I tell you, I do not know you; from where you are. Depart from Me, all workers of unrighteousness! There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you will see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and yourselves being thrust out. And they will come from the east and the west, and from the north and the south, and will recline in the kingdom of God. And behold, there are last ones which will be first, and there are first ones which will be last."
