DANIEL 2:27
Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, “The secret which the king has demanded, the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, and the soothsayers cannot declare to the king. [NKJV] |
Indeclarable Secret beyond the Wise Men
Daniel responded before the king, saying, "The wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, and the soothsayers cannot reveal to the king the secret he has asked for." This was similar to what the wise men themselves told the king, but he would not accept it.
The word "Declare" means "Clarify, Reveal or Announce," but the word "Decree" means "To give an Order or Command." The former requires wisdom/knowledge, and the latter requires power/authority. To make a "Declaration" is to make a "Clarification, Revelation, or Announcement." If a problem or trouble will get a solution or be resolved by a declaration or revelation, that problem is a riddle, a puzzle, a conundrum, or an enigma. If it cannot be declared, then it has gone beyond being "unknown" to becoming a "mystery" or "esoteric."
It's the duty of scientists to discover and declare the unknown things among men, but not their duty or ability to declare mysteries or esoteric metaphysics, for those are beyond science and their scientific or artificial intelligences and algorithms.
The four groups of sages or philosophers mentioned in the Bible verse above can be grouped under one umbrella and called "Wise Men" or "Magi," including the wizards, the astrologers, the magicians, and the soothsayers. You may recall there were Magi or Wise Men (Astrologers precisely) from the East who received a declaration from the Star of the Lord Jesus Christ in the East and knew that a King and God had been born among men, and He was to be worshipped as God. So they came from the East to worship the God that was born, the "King of the Jews."
Mind you, the secret dream of Nebuchadnezzar was also about the coming of the King of the Jews, the Lord Jesus Christ, who was to come as a Stone and crush the kings and kingdoms that came before He came, and then establish the Kingdom of God on earth.
So if both instances were about the same Kingdom of God by the Man God, Jesus Christ the King, how were the Wise Men from the East in the days of Herod able to declare the secret of the King, but the Wise Men in the days of Nebuchadnezzar were not able to declare the secret of the king?
No man knows either the Father or the Son of God, except the Father or the Son reveals the Other to the man. So there must be a "Revelation from God" before there can be a "Revelation of God." Without revelation from God, there is no revelation. For this is like a Great Door shut both from within and from without, having or needing keys to unlock the door from inside first before needing keys to unlock the door from outside — That's Revelation or that's how the Declaration will thrive.
1. If it's to a Decreeing, it still applies: No man commands or decrees anything and it comes to pass unless God first commanded it, which is why we say, God determines the Government or Power that be. As it is written,
[Lamentations 3:37] — Nobody can speak or decree anything and have it happen unless the Lord commands it.
2. If it's to a Declaring, it still applies: No man can know the things that belong to God unless God has shown them or by the Spirit of God. So whatever God created or made is discovered and known because God revealed it to the creatures first before they discovered them through wisdom, knowledge, art, and science.
[Romans 1:19-20 NKJV] — because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world, His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,
[Deuteronomy 29:29] — "The secret things belong to the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law."
Now, to answer that question:
The reason Wise Men in the days of Herod knew the secret of the Kingdom of God, but the Wise Men in the days of Nebuchadnezzar could not know or declare the secret of the Kingdom of God was because God revealed the secret by the Star to the wise men in the days of Herod, but God hid the secret from the wise men in the days of Nebuchadnezzar and only later revealed it to Daniel. Believe that God's Grace is always involved: No declaration or decree without Him.
