№ ¹. And Enoch went and said: 'Azazel, you shall have no peace: a severe sentence has been passed against you that you should be bound:
№ ². And you shall not have rest or mercy (toleration nor request granted), because of the unrighteousness which you have taught, and because of all the works of godlessness,
№ ³. And unrighteousness and sin which you have shown to men.
№ ⁴. Then I went and spoke to them all together, and they were all afraid, and fear and trembling seized them.
№ ⁵. And they asked me to write a petition for them that they might find forgiveness, and to read their petition in the presence of the Lord of heaven. They had been forbidden to speak (with Him) nor were they to lift up their eyes to heaven for shame of their sins because they had been condemned.
№ ⁶. Then I wrote out their petition, and the prayer in regard to their spirits and their deeds individually and in regard to their requests that they should obtain forgiveness and forbearance.
№ ⁷. And I went off and sat down at the waters of Dan, in the land of Dan, to the southwest of Hermon: I read their petition until I fell asleep.
№ ⁸. And I had a dream, and I saw a vision of their chastisement, and a voice came to me that I would reprimand (reprove) them.
№ ⁹. And when I awoke, I came to them, and they were all sitting gathered together, weeping in Abelsjail, which is between Lebanon and Seneser, with their faces covered.
№ ¹⁰. And I recounted to them all the visions which I had seen when I was asleep, and I began to speak the words of righteousness, and to reprimand heavenly Watchers.
[1 ENOCH 13:1 JBL]—And Enoch went and said: 'Azazel, you shall have no peace: a severe sentence has been passed against you that you should be bound:
[1 ENOCH 13:1] — Then Enoch, passing on, said to Azazyel: Thou shalt not obtain peace. A great sentence is gone forth against thee. He shall bind thee;
Enoch conveyed "The Supreme Court Ruling" or "Divine Sentence" from the throne of God to Azazyel in his dungeon, which was a grave-pit, where he was both buried alive and bound. Meaning:
Those Watchers (fallen angels) did not have the privilege of standing before the Supreme Court or before the Throne of God to receive their Judgments directly or their cases were judged in their absence in the Court. It's like barbing or shaving a man's hair in his absence. However:
Their fair-hearing later came through Enoch or through a man back to God in appeal. Nevertheless:
In the Enoch Verse above, the Divine Sentence or Court Ruling was conveyed by Enoch to both Azazyel and later to the rest of the fallen angels in their dungeons. In the contents of the "Death in Life Sentence" the Supreme Court sentenced Azazyel to "Life in bonds/chains, and life without peace."
Enoch therefore began the era of mankind declaring the Word of God to angels and to spirits, as prophets of God to angels and as vessels for conveying God's Judgment to angels. In our days, mankind can now "Bind orCast" fallen angels or demons, or pronounce sentences in form of judgment or rebuke over demons, unclean spirits etc, citing the Word of God written or spoken as authority given to mankind over those who were once angels in heaven. Well, Enoch was the first man given such authority.
"Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.” [In the Lord's reply] "Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”
[Luke 10:17, 20 NKJV]
[1 ENOCH 13:2 JBL] —And you shall not have rest or mercy (toleration nor request granted), because of the unrighteousness which you have taught, and because of all the works of godlessness,
[1 ENOCH 13:2] — Neither shall relief, mercy, and supplication be thine, on account of the oppression which thou has taught;
Still part of the Sentence against Azazyel, a leader of the fallen angels who taught or authored the invention of oppression or unrighteousness:
Enoch in reading out the Sentence against Azazyel, read, "You shall have no Rest/Relief, no Mercy and no way for all your prayers: and these are contained in the wages for the oppression or unrighteousness he taught or authored in the world.
Teachersrisk receiving the greater condemnation or worse sentences in the Judgment of God [James 3:1], and a "Teacher" in some sense is the same thing as a "Master." The word "Rabbi" means "Master" or "Teacher." Many have said, "Teachers' rewards are in heaven," but I tell you that many teachers rewards shall be served them in hell, in condemnation or in second death, and not in heaven, even as those fallen angels who were teachers of various inventions on earth that increased fornication, adultery, wars and murders, witchcrafts, sorceries, astrologies, necromancies, falsehoods, deceptions, and various forms of ungodliness in the world.
[1 ENOCH 13:3 JBL] —And unrighteousness and sin which you have shown to men.
[1 ENOCH 13:3] — And on account of every act of blasphemy, tyranny, and sin, which thou hast discovered to the children of men.
Again, these particular sentences read by Enoch to Azazyel and later to the rest of the fallen angels, were not basically the wages for their marrying the daughters of men or fornication; but for their evil teachings or evil things they authored. The judgment for their own sins of Fornication or marriage with daughters of men was that they were defiled, and can never again enter into the Holy Heavens. Even during the Court deciding their case in heaven, they couldn't be there in the Holy Heavens to face their Judgments directly because they were defiled and without holiness they cannot even see God or come any where near Him. So for Fornication or leaving their first Estate/Habitation, they can never return there again forever. And they were chained in darkness.
But besides fornication or sexual intercourse with women, they also authored, taught or discovered, ways of unrighteousness that have stuck with mankind since then. Mankind learnt act of blasphemy, tyranny, sin, from Azazyel, just as mankind learnt to eat of the forbidden fruit of knowledge of good and evil from the Serpent or the Devil. It is on account of these discoveries and knowledge they brought upon mankind [through which the whole world became corrupt and filled with violence, until the Flood of Noah destroyed that world], came these Sentences of Enoch.
Teachers include those that discover or expose secrets to people, those that open people's eyes to know things they may not have known at the time, those that encourage/seduce or coach people to do or say things they wouldn't have done/said without the motivation, and those that guide people in various ways. In fact, whatever someone else learnt or copied from you, makes you the teacher of that thing to the person. Technically:
Almost every body is a teacher of something to someone who learnt, heard, saw or copied, that from somebody.
A danger of being an artist, an actor, an inventor, or an author, is that you may not know who may pick up bad habit, blasphemous language or acts of insult, from the movies you acted, the games you made or featured, the books you wrote, the drama you played, the music you promoted, the platform you built, etc. Children and adults are always learning, and curious to learn/hear/see new things happening daily.
Be careful what you feed into people's mind, heart and learning.
[Matthew 18:7 NKJV] — Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes!
[1 ENOCH 13:4 JBL] —Then I went and spoke to them all together, and they were all afraid, and fear and trembling seized them.
[1 ENOCH 13:4-5] — Then departing from him I spoke to them altogether; And they became terrified, trembled;
Azazyel was isolated from the rest of the watchers or fallen angels in detention, and when Enoch was done passing the message first to Azazyel he took the message also to the larger collection of the fallen angels located in other detention.
According to the Enoch Verse above, the message Enoch spoke to the collection of the fallen angels struck fear in them and they became terrified. The darkness and the chains they were in did not terrify them as much as the divine Sentence against them, conveyed to them by Enoch from God. The Judgment of God indeed inspires great fear in them that do not have hope of mercy and peace from the Judgment.
[Isaiah 33:14] — "The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness has surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?"
[1 ENOCH 13:5 JBL] —And they asked me to write a petition for them that they might find forgiveness, and to read their petition in the presence of the Lord of heaven. They had been forbidden to speak (with Him) nor were they to lift up their eyes to heaven for shame of their sins because they had been condemned.
[1 ENOCH 13:6] — Beseeching me to write for them a memorial of supplication, that they might obtain forgiveness; and that I might make the memorial of their prayer ascend up before the God of heaven; because they could not themselves thenceforwards addresss Him, nor raise up their eyes to heaven on account of the disgraceful offence for which they were judged.
There was a time in my younger days when everyone in my church group was directed to write his/her prayer requests or petition in a sheet of paper with names attached to it, and to come with the written petition to the main church program coming shortly after that day. People did brought forth their written Prayer Petitions, and dropped them in one of the church collection boxes provided for the collection of the written petition or prayers requests. During the main program, the cordinators gathered together the Petitions before the church, and the Leader instructed us to stretch our hands and pray over all that were written in the Petitions, and afterwards the Leader instructed those Petitions to be burnt or set ablaze in our eyes, stating that God would receive the Letters or written Petitions via the smoke ascending up to Him.
Well, in the book of Revelation, angels joined the Prayers of the Saints to the incense they offered on the altar as burnt offering to God [Revelation 5:8, 8:3-4]
But in another occasion, my church group leaders collected written testimonies from the church. And in a main church program, they took time to read out some of the written testimonies. Particularly, those written testimonies that praised the local church and the man of God over that church, giving that Pastor some credits or praises while thanking God, were selected and read before everyone in the church.
One would have expected them to also burn the written Testimonies as they burnt the written Petitions. But they instead burnt the written prayer Requests before all the church attendants, but took time to selectively read out the written Testimonies before all the church attendants.
In this Enoch Verse above, the fallen angels begged Enoch to be a Scribe for them, to assist them write their Prayer Petitions in a memorial book, and to make their prayer Petitions, requesting for the forgiveness of their sins, to ascend as a memorial in the presence to the God of heaven. The reason they were unable to do so themselves or help themselves, but soliciting Enoch to do so for them, was because they were condemned already for their sin and were unworthy to even lift up their eyes to heaven much less lift up their voices to heaven to speak to God.
Besides, their prayers to God had become forbidden or closed by God's Command. They would be adding to their sins if they even pray to God because God their prayers to God have become forbidden or abomination. It's like saying, "the prayer of the sinners is abomination to God" [Proverbs 15:8]. Yes, God could forbid or command someone not to say certain prayer for sinners or not to intercede for certain sinner. E.g. God Commanded Moses not to ever that mention or pray again asking God to forgive his sin and to allow him enter the Promised Land [Deuteronomy 3:25-26]. Samuel was still praying for Saul the king God rejected, but God rebuked Samuel for still praying for Saul whom God already rejected and even replaced with David whom God has chosen instead of Saul [1 Samuel 16:1]. Jeremiah was commanded not to pray nor make intercession for those people who offered incense to the queen of heaven, because God will not hear him [Jeremiah 7:16-20].
So the fallen angels were already forbidden from even lifting their faces to heaven and shutdown from praying to God. But here they were asking Enoch to intercede for them, and to extend their prayers to God as written prayer Petitions. This may even anger God more, because they were still trying to use a man (Enoch) to get to where they were forbidden to reach.
[1 ENOCH 13:6 JBL] —Then I wrote out their petition, and the prayer in regard to their spirits and their deeds individually and in regard to their requests that they should obtain forgiveness and forbearance.
[1 ENOCH 13:7] — Then I wrote a memorial of their prayer and supplication, for their spirits, for everything which they had done, and for the subject of their entreaty, that they might obtain remission and rest.
In this Enoch Verse, Enoch the Scribe wrote "Prayer Petitions" as a memorial of intercession for the fallen angels and spirit sinners, that they may obtain mercy, forgiveness of sins and remission. But the he also confessed all their sins first by way of writing all their sinful deeds, so as to include all the confessed sins under the subject for which he was ceding for forgiveness. Confession is very important to obtaining forgiveness. The sins you did not confess or expose and plead guilty of, may escape getting remission or forgiven. As it is written,
[Proverbs 28:13] — "He that covers his sins shall not prosper: but whoever confesses and forsakes them shall have mercy."
Thus, the more detailed you are in confessing sins in repentance, the more efficiently they are addressed in restitution and mercy of God.
Behold, Enoch the Scribe wrote Prayer Petitions for condemned sinners, even during his official duty of conveying God's Judgment upon them. Such was a golden heart, and kindness similar to when the Legion of demons prayed Jesus Christ to allow them enter the swine and Jesus Christ granted their request. I have read in a book where Elijah spoke of Enoch, saying Enoch had this virtue in him that Elijah did not have, making Enoch more like Jesus Christ than Elijah. The reason being Enoch still loved the sinners even when declaring God's Judgment to them, doing it out of love and hope of mercy, interceding for sinners under God's Judgment. But Elijah brought Judgment of God on sinners out of anger, not out of love, for those sinners: and Elijah did no do enough in interceding or praying for sinners as Enoch, Moses, Samuel, Jeremiah, Amos, Paul etc, did for sinners. Well Elijah prayed for the widow's son to be raised back to life despite the sins of the widow, and John the Baptist corrected Elijah's way in this. Jonah too would not pray for Nineveh but wanted the destruction of the people of Nineveh to whom he was sent to bring God's Judgment. But Abraham interceded for Sodom and Gomorrah.
Jesus Christ the Son of God is the greatest Intercessor for sinners, even to the degree of shedding His Blood and Glory, and being made a curse for them in the ministry of reconciliation. As it is written,
[Galatians 3:13] — "Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangs on a tree:"
[Hebrews 2:17-18, 7:25] — "For this reason He had to be made like His brothers in every way, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, in order to make atonement for the sins of the people. Because He Himself suffered when He was tempted, He is able to help those who are being tempted." "Therefore He is able to save completely those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to intercede for them."
[1 ENOCH 13:7 JBL] —And I went off and sat down at the waters of Dan, in the land of Dan, to the southwest of Hermon: I read their petition until I fell asleep.
[1 ENOCH 13:8] — Proceeding on, I continued over the waters of Danbadan, which is on the right to the west of Armon, reading the memorial of their prayer, until I fell asleep.
When Enoch was done with them, he departed and came by the waters of Danbadan or waters of Dan. Before a "Dan" was born as son to Jacob, there was a place called "Dan" in the days of Abraham's war [Genesis 13:14] and waters called of "Dan" in the days Enoch was mystified or hidden to mankind.
To help us behold better what Enoch did in the Enoch's verse above, let's compare it with what Jonah did after he learnt God was not going to destroy Nineveh again or what Elijah did when he learnt Jezebel's threats.
**** Enoch conveyed the Judgment of Godto the condemned sinners in hell. Then he published their fair-hearing and petitions in a book. Then in the bid for their intercession, Enoch traveled out and sat by the waters of Danbadan, reading those condemned sinners confessions and petitions as if he was reading scriptures, until he fell asleep while reading the memorial of intercession dictated by the fallen angels and written down with the fingers of Enoch.
**** Jonah conveyed the Judgment of Godto the sinners in Nineveh, but became very angry that his own pronouncement or message of Judgment failed to come to pass because they had repented and confessed their sins, and God forgave them. So Jonah traveled out of the city to the east of the city and wishing God takes his life in protest, expecting God's Judgment to come and destroy the city as he had prophesied to them [Jonah 4:1-5]
**** Elijah received threats of death against him from Jezebel the queen, and Elijah expected God to have killed Jezebel so that he would not have to flee. But that didn't happen, and Elijah had to flee for his life, Elijah traveled out and wishing God takes his life in protest, expecting God's Judgment to come and destroy the Israel for what they have done against God's prophets and men of God - you know, activating 'Touch not Mine Anointed and do My prophets no harm.' So Elijah intercede against or prayed against Israel, wishing God to send Judgment upon Israel for what they had done to pastors, prophets, men of God etc. As it is written,
[Romans 11:2-4] — "God did not reject His people, whom He foreknew. Do you not know what the Scripture says about Elijah, how he appealed to God against Israel: “Lord, they have killed Your prophets and torn down Your altars. I am the only one left, and they are seeking my life as well”? And what was the divine reply to him? “I have reserved for Myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.”"
[1 ENOCH 13:8-9 JBL] —And I had a dream, and I saw a vision of their chastisement, and a voice came to me that I would reprimand (reprove) them. And when I awoke, I came to them, and they were all sitting gathered together, weeping in Abelsjail, which is between Lebanon and Seneser, with their faces covered.
[1 ENOCH 13:9] — And behold a dream came to me, and visions appeared above me. I fell down and saw a vision of punishment, that I might relate it to the sons of heaven, and reprove them. When I awoke I went to them. All being collected together stood weeping in Oubelseyael, which is situated between Libanos and Seneser, with their faces veiled.
God gave Enoch more messages in a dream-vision to convey to the fallen angels after Enoch interceded for them in writing memorial of intercession for them, and reading what he had written.
№ ¹ — Though Enoch was translated or mystified, he could still sleep and dream as men do.
№ ² — Though the Watchers or fallen angels had confessed their sins and petitions for forgiveness of sins to Enoch, they were not being reproved and sincere with Enoch. Enoch had to see through the visions things that needed to be reproved in those fallen angels. That meant their repentance was not even genuine or complete enough.
№ ³ — Though they were weeping with their faces covered, they were only convicted of sins but not convicted of righteousness.
Enoch had a vision of their punishment or chastisement, but saw they were still lacking the reprove of righteousness. The Comforter (Holy Spirit) does not just convict or reprove people of sin and judgment, but also of Righteousness. You are convicted of sin, and you receive punishment for your sin, but are convicted of righteousness? As it is written,
[John 16:8] — "And when He is come, He will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:"
God's Judgment is not just about sins, but much more about Righteousness and Justice. Righteousness is found in union with Him as the Righteous Judge.
[1 ENOCH 13:10 JBL] —And I recounted to them all the visions which I had seen when I was asleep, and I began to speak the words of righteousness, and to reprimand heavenly Watchers.
[1 ENOCH 13:10] — I related in their presence all the visions which I had seen, and my dream, And began to utter these words of righteousness, reproving the Watchers of heaven.
Basically, Enoch shared the visions he just received concerning them, and Enoch began both to teach them the Words of Righteousness and to convict/reprove the watchers of heaven who were fallen.
No wonder they taught the world of men "Unrighteousness" and they themselves got taught by man (Enoch) "Righteousness."
[1 Corinthians 6:2-3] — "Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!"
